Happy Earth Day

Happy Earth Day! Today I worked on my seedlings. I planted more winter squash. I encourage everyone to start a garden. My goal this year is to plant more native plants and to have enough in our veggie garden to share. I'd love to have enough to be able to share with my local food bank.

I found these cat scarecrow garden stakes online. I really want to try them in my garden! I like that they are metal and they have reflective eyes. I'm not sure if they will work to keep away chipmunks, squirrel or rabbits. You can find them on Amazon and Wayfair.

Devil Baby is a dwarf bearded Iris.

Lucky Devil is gorgeous! Anyone would be lucky to have this devil in their garden.

Finally this is Devil's Playground Iris. If you have Iris in your garden you know they are not only easy to grow but multiply readily.

These Devil's can be found at Schreiner's as well be as many other intriguing flowers.

Ghost's in the Garden

Miss Wilmotts Ghost is a beautiful white Sea Holly.
Here in zone 5 it is a short lived perennial.

Haunting bearded Iris Bluebeards Ghost a beautiful perennial.

Spring Ghost which is a form of Colorado Spruce. I love this one!

Seedling Progress is Garden Therapy

I've got herbs started dill, basil and cilantro.
I have lots of cucumbers and cherry tomatoes. I have some marigolds and zinnias. Of course pumpkins and squash.🎃What are you growing?  I wake up every morning thinking what I can do to be positive and make a difference for my family. Gardening is my therapy and it's keeping me sane.

Forsythia Spring Anticipation

Forsythia is one of the best and easiest Spring flowering scrubs to grow. Their blooms are bright yellow. They can be easily propagated. You can take cuttings and put them in a bucket of water and in about a week or two you will have roots forming. So once you have one forsythia one can make hundreds of them. They also self root if you don't prune. When a branch touches the ground you can stick it in the dirt and it will root.

According to folklore forsythia is associated with anticipation. After forsythia blooms there should be only three more snowfalls. We look forward to Spring and gardening as the Earth wakes up from Winter. Forsythia is the personification of the Spring!

Planting a Victory Garden

Hello gardening friends! It's been a long time since I have posted. I thought it was time to share some good things happening in the garden.
I have started my seeds. I have both veggies and flowers started. I do interplant them. The flowers I find bring more pollinators. I encourage everyone to start a garden this year. If you don't have a yard containers are a great way.

For online seeds I love Pinetree seeds superseeds.com and Bakers seeds rareseeds.com companies. If you can try and get heirloom seeds which can be saved year to year. In stores I have found seeds in the dollar tree, Meijer and Walmart.
