Sweet violets are blooming! I adore them and our lawn is full of them. My intentions have always been to make violet jam or liquor. Violets represent truth and loyalty. Put them in your pillow and dream away. Let me know what you dream. Sweet dreams and sweet violets. And Happy May!magikalseasonshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11782415318265540268noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1107440229425607566.post-23922388082973876182020-04-26T10:17:00.000-04:002020-04-26T10:17:04.189-04:00The Webs We Weave

Happy Earth Day! Today I worked on my seedlings. I planted more winter squash. I encourage everyone to start a garden. My goal this year is to plant more native plants and to have enough in our veggie garden to share. I'd love to have enough to be able to share with my local food bank.magikalseasonshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11782415318265540268noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1107440229425607566.post-50601583756406675112020-04-18T12:34:00.000-04:002020-04-18T12:41:49.494-04:00Garden Vampires

I found these cat scarecrow garden stakes online. I really want to try them in my garden! I like that they are metal and they have reflective eyes. I'm not sure if they will work to keep away chipmunks, squirrel or rabbits. You can find them on Amazon and Wayfair.

I have lots of cucumbers and cherry tomatoes. I have some marigolds and zinnias. Of course pumpkins and squash.🎃What are you growing? Forsythia is one of the best and easiest Spring flowering scrubs to grow. Their blooms are bright yellow. They can be easily propagated. You can take cuttings and put them in a bucket of water and in about a week or two you will have roots forming. So once you have one forsythia one can make hundreds of them. They also self root if you don't prune. When a branch touches the ground you can stick it in the dirt and it will root.
According to folklore forsythia is associated with anticipation. After forsythia blooms there should be only three more snowfalls. We look forward to Spring and gardening as the Earth wakes up from Winter. Forsythia is the personification of the Spring!

Hello gardening friends! It's been a long time since I have posted. I thought it was time to share some good things happening in the garden.
I have started my seeds. I have both veggies and flowers started. I do interplant them. The flowers I find bring more pollinators. I encourage everyone to start a garden this year. If you don't have a yard containers are a great way.

For online seeds I love Pinetree seeds superseeds.com and Bakers seeds rareseeds.com companies. If you can try and get heirloom seeds which can be saved year to year. In stores I have found seeds in the dollar tree, Meijer and Walmart.

Above are my tiny radishes. Check back again and happy gardening!magikalseasonshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11782415318265540268noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1107440229425607566.post-90194402010607080562017-07-13T15:37:00.000-04:002017-07-13T15:37:05.248-04:00Gorgeous Green Bee

This small amazing metallic green is from the genus Agapostemon.
Also known as the Sweat Bee which isn't attracted to human sweat.
We really need to plant more wildflowers and plants in general to save all our bees and pollinators!
This one is fond of this Becky Shasta Daisy.
Grandpa Otts is a gorgeous heirloom morning glory.
It's a lovely dark purple with a magenta throat.
A favorite of humming birds.
Be warned it will seed all over!
They have heart shaped leaves and according to folklore will bring love and happiness to you.
It's said if you have nightmares you should sleep with the seeds under your pillow.magikalseasonshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11782415318265540268noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1107440229425607566.post-63302392499421301432017-07-05T08:04:00.000-04:002017-07-05T08:04:32.950-04:00Mysterious Bloom

I planted several of this variety of cucumber this year.
White wonder is a lovely and mild flavored cuke.
It's not a pure white but the lighter color makes them easy to find.
I pick them young for salad.
White Wonder is an heirloom introduced by Burpee.
The original seed came from New York.
I got my seeds from rareseeds.com.
I love the varieties from Bakers Seeds!magikalseasonshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11782415318265540268noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1107440229425607566.post-89572365905737507182017-06-26T12:31:00.000-04:002017-06-27T06:53:12.774-04:00Enchanted Dark Tomato...indigo rose

Spiderwort (Tradescantia) is also known as Sweet Kate. It's a beautiful flower with spider like foliage. Grows well for me in sun or part shade and comes in pinks, blues, white and purples. They bloom for me at the Summer Solstice. Happy Summer!
Spotted Touch Me Nots or Jewelweed (Impatiens Capensis) is a native wildflower. They grow here along the roadsides and along the edge of our woods. Their flowers can be a wonderful orange as pictured above or yellow. The touch me not part of them is their seed pod. It bursts open in your hand and scatters the seeds. They feel alive and it's quite fun!
A poultice made from Jewelweed is said to help with poison ivy although I haven't tried it as I am not affected by poison ivy for some reason.magikalseasonshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11782415318265540268noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1107440229425607566.post-18774772613789401442014-08-31T12:46:00.001-04:002014-08-31T12:46:45.774-04:00Mums the word
