If you love gardens

and you are in Cornwall.  You must go to St. Just Church.  The grounds for the cemetery are some of the most beautiful I have ever seen.

I could have spent all day in that cemetery. This is what I could manage in the 15 minutes that I had to snap pictures. But as you can see by the amazing flora in the area....the cemetery is stunning.

  4. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!!! I love all of the growth and overgrowth, along with all of the architectural urns, and of course, the different headstones.

We have an old city cemetery that is full of oak trees, and pines, and the squirrels and chippies are everywhere. .then there is the new one. .a flat open field outside of town, where all markers have to be flat in the ground, so that it is easy to mow. .only flowers in vases that are sunk into the ground are allowed, and only on certain days. .no trees, no flora, no fauna. .it is stark, dismal and depressing. .even in death, they are trying to create a cookie cutter environment, devoid of any individual character. How very sad.

So,how lucky you are to have seen this beautiful place! And thank you SO much for sharing it with us!

  5. I bet all the inhabitants of that cemetery enjoy their verdant views. I was thinking that one scene (2:20)showed bleeding hearts surrounding the headstone, but then I decided it was a fushia. Not as ironic, but still beautiful.

@Suzie: you are spot on regarding the new style of cemeteries.

  8. The song is called Na Hu O Ho - it is by Fionna Kennedy. It is actually a celtic christmas song, it is one of my favorite christmas songs. Since I was there in late November and there was decorations everywhere....just had that song going through my head. :)

    Cheers!

what an amazing experience to feel the 'circle of life' and peace of an old, overgrown cemetary.... lovely pictures. i would love to visit!!

if youre ever in charleston SC, there's a really cool little cemetary tucked behind a unitarian church. not the same vibe as you'd get in the UK, but it is cool. and of course the cemetaries in savannah are gorgeous.
