If you listen really carefully

to most of the plants in my garden you can hear them weeping silently and saying, very quietly

"don't move me again.....please, please don't move me again ..."

The more I garden the better I get at putting the right plant in the right spot....but I have to admit that sometimes, it takes more than one placement to find the "perfect" home for a given plant.

Some of the plants that say they like shade, likely meant shade in somewhere warm like California, shade in the Pacific Northwest, often comes with damp and wet.  I have had more than one weak plant just completely denigrate. A sad way to go.

So if they live long enough for me to see they are in distress, I will move them.

Other times they just get too big for their current home and since I am digging them up to divide them anyway, might as well see if it will look better over "there."

So the wheelbarrow and the shovels in my garden garage get the most mileage in spring and fall.

I never thought to see if I could get the cats to help me......this is a great idea. :)

  1. You are not alone. My Hubby says that I rearrange the garden more often that I rearrange the furniture in the living room. LOL

  2. I don't like moving my plants, and won't unless they tell me that they want to move. Before I ever plant them the first time, I put the pot in that spot, and let it stay there a day or two, asking the plant if it wants to call that spot of earth "home". Then I let it tell me yes or no.
My kitties are all indoor kitties, but I still have lots of company in the garden, the feral cats that we feed, plus a number of the neighbors cats all come to hang out with me, weaving in and out of my legs, and what particularly makes me chuckle, is when I'm on my hands and knees, weeding or digging, and they will walk under me, butting their head into mine, purring like crazy, then flipping over for me to rub their tummy. More than one neighbor, when passing by will notice the multitude of cats all laying around me, either sunning themselves, or trying to keep cool in the shade. .and more than one has complained about other neighbor's cats using their garden as a litter box. But I've never had that problem. .they eat here, and they get love and attention here. They won't "sully" the hand that feeds them. Smart kitties! lol

  4. Ahhh, yes. If my plants and your plants got together, I suspect they'd have a lot to talk about! :D

  5. The plants that thrive best in my Garden tend to be the ones that "plant" themselves where Nature intended them to be and then just enter into a partnership with me to leave them be and nurture them to bloom where they have aptly planted themselves! *winks* So difficult as their spot isn't always the spot I'd prefer them to grow... but in the end they win because to see them thrive often makes me reconsider my landscape architecture plans and the design for our Garden. *LOL*
