I was looking forward to eating this tomato in a salad. When I cut it I was shocked to see the seeds inside this tomato had sprouted. Yes inside the tomato and as you can see the seedlings are green. I watered it for a couple of days feeling sorry for these sproutlings. I don't start my seeds until the first week of March so I wasn't going to bother trying to save them. I guess if seeds inside of a tomato can sprout Spring must be around the corner. In fact 22 more days!
That makes me smile. Back when I first started a veggie garden in my yard, I composted for a year and then I finally felt I had a great amount of super black gold to make my garden. I fenced it in (dogs) and spread out the compost and tilled it into the hard AZ earth. What no one told me was to not put tomatoes in your compost pile. A couple weeks later, I was shocked to find all these green plants growing everywhere--what the heck were they? I let them grow a bit more, smelled the leaves, realized they were tomato plants! I couldn't kill them off, so my first season, I grew about 30 tomato plants. They ended up being gargantuan and the tomatoes were huge and robust. Ever since then, I'm careful about seeds in my compost, but I must admit that I've never been able to grow tomatoes even remotely like those!
